Gadchiroli May 14 (District Correspondent) As many as 4 youths were drowned in Chichdoh Barrage this afternoon. The names of the drowned youths are given as Monu Trilok Sharma ( 26 ), Praful Vitthal Yelure, ( 20 years),  Shubham Roopchand Lanjewar, ( 24 ) and Mahesh Madhukar Ghongde, (20), all the residents of Chamorshi.

These youths had gone for swimming at Chichdoh Barrage near the town. As they could not guess the depth of water all of them drowned. As soon as the Chamorshi police got the information, they reached the spot and without wasting any time and caring for their lives, they tied a rope to themselves and jumped into the deep water. Local youths helped the police in this matter. However, they could not save the lives of the youths.

The further information revealed that these youths had gone for a party at Chichdoh Barrage. After that, they went down to the riverbed for bathing. 5 people went for bath. When one of them started drowning in the water, the remaining youths went to save him. They however did not guess the water and went into deep water.

Police Inspector Rajesh Khandve, Police Sub-Inspector Sudhir Sathe, Tushar Patil and police personnel were engaged in the operation.

Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Devrao Holi, MLA visited the site and consoled the family members. The dead bodies were taken to Chamorshi Rural Hospital for autopsy and were handed over to the relatives.

As soon as the people came to know about the incident they rushed to the spot and there was a huge crowd of onlookers. People have been visiting this place to see the barrage but this tragedy has shocked them all.

A pall of gloom has spread in Chamorshi town following the incident.
