Gadchiroli March (District Correspondent) The women of village Rakhi and Gurwada near here dashed to the police station Gadchiroli to file a complaint against the liquor sellers of the village the other day demanding the police authorities to immediately stop the liquor sale. A memorandum was submitted to the Sub Divisional Police Officer Suraj Jagtap and Police Inspector Arun Fegde who promised the women to take action.

Liquor was sold in large quantities in village Rakhi and Gurwada for the last so many days. Many families were destroyed by alcohol. Realizing that health, economic loss, peace and order are in danger, both the villages of Rakhi and Gurwada together held a gram sabha recently.

In this meeting a ‘Darubandi Samiti was formed and 13 liquor sellers were verbally instructed to stop the sale of liquor immediately. form a liquor ban organization by majority decision. However, the liquor sellers continued to sell the illicit liquor. Therefore, the village association filed a complaint 3 times in a row at Gadchiroli Police Station against the vendors for liquor ban.

Taking cognizance of this, the police department took action against the liquor sellers and the sale of liquor was stopped for two months. But again 5 liquor sellers started illegal business. Therefore, the women of both the villages again reached the police station and submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional police officer along with the police inspector. When the women demanded to make the village liquor- free, the police officials promised to take action.
