Gadchiroli May 21 (District Correspondent) The selection process of the Gondwana University for the post of Dean of Science and Technology department has come under controversy with some of the candidates applying for the post having taken strong objection to the validity of the very scrutiny committee.

The Scrutiny Committee formed by the University is not in accordance with the (University Grants Commission (UGC) norms, it has been complained. The members of this committee do not comply with the required qualification as per UGC rules, it has been complained by Dr. Manohar Lokhande, one of the applicants.

As per UGC norms, selection committee members should have Ph.D. degree, Professor/Associate Professor with a total service/ experience of at least 15 years of teaching/research in Universities, Colleges and other institutions of higher education, minimum of 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals, minimum of 110 Research Score as per Appendix II, Table 2 of 7th pay commission, Lokhande has pointed out.

However, all the members of the scrutiny committee fulfil these requirements nor they are eligible as per the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, hence the committee itself is invalid, it has been complained.

It has also been complained that the shortlisting of the two candidates after scrutiny of the application of the total 13 candidates also is invalid as they do not fulfil the required qualification for the post of Dean.

This is second time the University has issued an advertisement for Dean’s post. In the first advertisement the interview was held in the month of August-2022, University authorities has selected unqualified candidate for the post of Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology and this matter is still pending in Nagpur bench of Mumbai High Court.

The entire process for the selection of the Dean of Science and Technology department of the Gondwana university should therefore be cancelled and it be held as per required rules and norms of the UGC, Dr. Manohar Lokhande, one of the applicants for the said post has demanded.

If any un-qualified candidate is selected for the post of Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, the legal action will be initiated and cost will be recovered from the University Authorities from their own salary, it has been warned.

He has sent the memorandums in this regard to the Chancellor and all the higher authorities of the Higher and Technical Education.
