Gadchiroli May 30 (District Correspondent) The Adiwasi Congress has strongly condemned the utterances of the Union Home Minister mentioning tribals in the country as ‘Wanvasis’ and have demanded apology from him for ‘insulting the tribal community.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here this afternoon, Mr. Madhav Gawad, district president of the Adiwasi Congress said that on May 24 last a cultural programme of the tribals was organized in New Delhi in which Mr. Amit Shah described the Adiwasis as Vanwasiss.
Tribals are the aboriginal residents of the country. They have their separate identity, culture and own tradition. They are always mentioned as the Adiwasis, but the Mr. Amit Shah and his party has been always describing them as Wanvasis and trying to wipe out the tribal people’s identity for their own political gains. This is a grave insult of the tribals which will not be tolerated at all, said Mr. Gawad.
A conspiracy is being hatched against the tribals to snatch away the constitutional rights of the tribals and Mr. Shah’s utterances are the part of that conspiracy, said Ms. Kusum Alam, national coordinator of the Adiwasi Congress, who was also present at the press conference. The tribals are already living under constant threat of their existence as they are being driven away from their land to enable the corporates to start their industries and now their identity also is being wiped out by saying them Vanwasis, she added.
The tribals are quite disappointed over the issue, she pointed out. Also present at the press conference were Mr. Sonu Alam, district general secretary of the Adiwasi Congress, Mr. Anand Kangale, Ms. Bharti Kangale.
