The students staging dharna in front of Gondwana University

Gadchiroli July 25 (District Correspondent) The students from various colleges affiliated to the Gondwana University staged a dharna agitation in front of the University office in MIDC area here on Monday afternoon and demanded thorough enquiry into the ‘mark sheet’ issue of the University.

The students, who had assembled in large numbers along with their mark sheets, holding placards in their hands, shouted intensive slogans against the University administration and mismanagement of its examination department alleging that thousands of students have suffered academic loss due to very less marks in most of the graduation and post-graduation exams conducted by the university.

The episode has been going on for the last three four years and university ignored it thereby playing a cruel game with the students, alleged Mr. Nilesh Nannaware, Chief of Human Rights Protection Forum, who led the agitation.

We conducted an online survey of the students having 0 to 7 marks and we were surprised to see that over 2200 students had less than 7 marks, most of them virtually 0 marks, even in the subjects like Marathi, besides the other subject like English, Economics, Sociology, Zoology, Chemistry, Microbiology etc, Nannaware later on told the reporters while addressing a press conference in the Press Club here.

How can it happen that many of the students have received 0 marks and most of them just below 7 marks. The entire process of giving marks and preparing the mark sheets should immediately be investigated and the students be given their due marks to save their further academic loss, Nannaware demanded.

The students in the final semesters of their respective streams have suffered a loss of one year as they could not take admission for the further studies as they have been shown failed by the university due to its faulty method, it was further told.

The students receiving such less marks also have to face the financial loss as they have to pay the fees for revaluation due to which many students have to leave their education halfway. The examination department of the university is solely responsible for all this mess, he alleged.

All the wrongly evaluated papers should be re checked and the fees paid by the students for revaluation should be returned, it was demanded. Action should be taken against the colleges which have charged more than Rs. 500 for the revaluation of papers, it should be ensured that such a mistake in valuation does not occur in the future, it was also demanded.

We had already submitted a memorandum to the university in this regard around a week ago but no any action was taken and the students were constrained to launch an agitation, told Nannaware.

The students from Janta Mahavidyalaya, Chandrapur, S P College of Law, Chandrapur, Anand Niketan Mahavidyalaya, Warora, Tukdoji MaharajMahavidyalaya, Chimur, Dr. Ambedkar Mahavidyalaya, Chandrapur and many other participated in the agitation.

UNI TO RECHECK PAPERS—Meanwhile the Gondwana University has issued a press release in which it has agreed to recheck the 10 percent of the complainant student’s answer papers and then to recheck all the answer papers if mistakes are found in giving marks. A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting of the Examination and Evaluation Board of the University that was held immediately after the student’s agitation..
