Gadchiroli Dec. 23 (District Correspondent) Mulniwasi Hakka Sangharsha Samiti President and Municipal councilor from Etapalli Manohar Borkar has alleged repression by the taluka administration and has demanded that the citizens be allowed to put forward their demands in a democratic way.

In a memorandum submitted to the district Collector and Superintendent of Police, Mr. Borkar has said that on December 8 last he had submitted a memorandum to the Tehsildar of Aheri addressed to the governor of Maharashtra regarding relaxation in forest rights claims documents along with few other tribals of the taluka. Even after knowing that the naxals had put up banners in the taluka appealing the people to observe PLGA Week, many farmers and citizens from Etapalli taluka were present at the time of submitting the memorandum.

Our move was to seek justice in a democratic way. However, I was sent a notice by the taluka administration under section 107 of CrPC seeking my explanation as to why I should not submit a bond of Rs. 5,000 for the period of 1 year so that there should not be a breach of social peace, Borkar pointed out.

This action of administration is of depriving the citizens of their constitutional rights and it seems that the taluka administration is stopping the people of naxal affected and remote areas from seeking their rights, said the memorandum.

The notice issued under CrPC should therefore be withdrawn and the people of taluka be freed from repression and they should be given an opportunity to seek justice in a democratic way, Borkar has demanded.
