Gadchiroli Oct. 28 (District Correspondent) Stating that the first step of democratic empowerment is voter registration, District Collector Sanjay Meena appealed to the new voters to register their names and exercise their right to vote.

The process of voters list updating, correction of electoral rolls is quite necessary to conduct elections in a transparent and fair environment. For this, a special brief revision program is conducted every year by the Election Commission of India, he informed in a press conference in his office here on Friday.

Those completing 18 years of age on or before January 1, 2024 will be eligible for registering their votes which is an important opportunity to exercise franchise in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, said Mr. Meena. Voters must ensure that their name is in the voters list or not. Often many voters complain that their name is not in the voter list on the polling day. Also your name, address, gender, date of birth, age, identity card number, constituency also have to be corrected, he told.

Similarly, objection can be taken regarding one’s name. If the voter does not reside at the address given in the list, other voters of the same constituency can object to such name. If any facts are found in it, the name of the concerned voter is deleted after verification, Meena informed.

Special camps for citizens belonging to some disadvantaged sections of the society are being organized. On 18th and 19th November College Students, Women. Camps will be organized on 2nd and 3rd December for women, nomadic tribes, he told.

A special Gram Sabha will be organized across the state from October 27 to November 30. During this time, the voter list will be read in Gram Sabhas across the state. Eligible voters will be registered in these gram sabhas such as women who came to the village after marriage, newly settled citizens in the village permanently etc.  Also, double names, deceased persons, persons who have permanently migrated from the village, women who got married and moved to another village will be excluded from the voter list, it was further told.
