Gadchiroli May 6 (District Correspondent) ‘No any community has achieved its progress in the history of human evolution as the Buddhists in such a short span of time and this could happen only because of the Buddhism. That is the greatness of the Buddha Dhamma and the philosophy of Lord Buddha’.

This was stated by noted thinker Dr. Manohar Naik while speaking at the Buddha Purnima programme here on Friday evening.

The programme was organized by the district unit of Buddhist Society of India (BSI) and other social, cultural organizations of the city at Rajiv Gandhi Hall here.

Mr. Tularam Raut, district chief of BSI presided over the programme while Bhante Siddhiratna Ratan, Bhante Yashwardhan, Buddhist monks, Ms. Pushpatai Bouddha, social worker, Mr. Prasenjeet Gaikwad, educationist were the chief guests.

Speaking further Dr. Naik said Lord Buddha was the best philosopher who taught the way of human welfare. He told the facts of human life and attained the highest level of knowledge. Buddha’s teaching is nothing but the path of man’s total way of life. He gave the mantra of ‘Bahujan Hitay-Bahujan Sukhay’ and the way of eliminating sorrow. If the people, irrespective of their religion or caste follow this preaching, there will be happiness and peace in the world, he pointed out.

Bhante Siddhiratna said the small country like Thailand has attained tremendous progress and prosperity because of Buddhism. The King of that country is revered by the citizens because of his ideal life which came from following Buddhism. The teachings of Buddhism need to be followed in day-to-day life and the people’s welfare will certainly be achieved.

Mr. Gaikwad said Buddhism is the Dhamma based on science and scientific approach. There is no any place for any sort of superstition and ill practices. That is the identity of this Dhamma. Buddhism connects the people of India with the entire world and develops fraternity that is most essential in the present times, he added.

Mr. Tularam Raut in his presidential speech called upon the people to follow the teachings of Buddhism. He appreciated the people of Gadchiroli for coming together to celebrate the festival on a grand scale.

At the outset, dances based of Buddha’s life were presented by the kids which attracted the attention of the people.
