Gadchiroli May 10 (District correspondent) City journalist Avinash Bhandekar has been honoured with the state level best journalist award given by Mantralaya and Legislature Reporters Union.

The award was presented to Bhandekar by the Chief Minister of the state Eknath Shinde at the Sahyadri guest house meeting hall in Mumbai.

Mr. Bhandekar, during his 32 years long career, solved various issues and brought justice to the people. Along with social journalism, he has been doing developmental and investigative journalism. He raised the issues of naxal-affected, remote and tribal districts.

Taking note of his work in journalism, the Mantralaya and Legislature Reporters Association selected him for the state level best journalist award for the year 2022-23.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the honour given to a journalist in an area like Gadchiroli in Mumbai is definitely appreciable. In today’s era of information technology, although electronics and social media have changed the nature of journalism, the importance of print media has not decreased even today. Saying that journalists should convey positive news and various schemes of the government to the society, he wished all the award-winning journalists for their future.

In the same program, the chief minister increased the fund of Patrakar Sanman Yojna from Rs.10,000 Rs. to 20,000. Mr. Madhukar Bhawe, senior journalist, Industries Minister Uday Samant, Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Minister of Ports and Mines Dada Bhuse, Minister of Labor Suresh Khade, Director General of Information Department, President of the Mantralaya and Legislature Reporters Union Pramod Doifode, Secretary Praveen Puro, Trustee of Marathi Press Council Kiran Naik, Vaishali Bhandekar and other dignitaries were present.
