Gadchiroli June 24 (District Correspondent) SPARSH Sanstha, in a special operation taken up jointly with the District Child Protection Cell, District Police Force and Childline rescued as many as 10 child labourers from Desaiganj –Wadsa recently.

Sparsh Sanstha has been celebrating the month of June this year as the month of action against child labour. Under this initiative, a month-long rescue operation to free the children from child labour and slavery is being taken up in the district.

Most of the rescued child labourers are from Desaiganj Wadsa. There are minors and some children are from other states also. A case has been registered at Police Station Desaiganj.

On this occasion, President of Sparsh Sanstha Dr. Dilip Barsagde said, “situation in India regarding child labour is very serious and according to the 2011 census there are 1 crore 10 lakh child labourers in the age group of 5 to 14 years in India. This ratio is 3.9 percent of the total number of children in the country.

There are many effective policies and strict laws for eradication of child labour practice but as long as the whole society does nottakes responsibility this will remain a challenge.

District Child Protection Officer Avinash Gurnule, Sparsh project Manager Itishas Meshram, Area Coordinator Lukesh Somankar, District Child Protection Unit Kaveeshwar Lengure, Jayant Jathade, Ravindra Bandawar, Devendra Meshram of Child Line, Constable of Police Station Desaiganj Vilas Balamwar, Satish Thackeray and others worked tirelessly to make this campaign a success with the help of Satyarthi Children Foundation.
