Child Marriage-Free India rally taken out by SPARSH.

Gadchiroli Oct. 20 (District Correspondent) ‘Child Marriage -Free India’ campaign was started in the district with Candle March by local NGO SPARSH in association with Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, New Delhi the other day.

The campaign is to be taken up in as many as 61 villages of Gadchiroli district. President of SPARSH Institute Prof. Dr. Dilip Barsagde inaugurated this campaign from Chandala Toli by flagging off the Child Marriage Free India Awareness Rally. Social activist Jyoti Khobragade, Gram Panchayat member Shubhangi Dugga, Rupa Kumre, Anganwadi worker Poornima Barshinge were mainly present.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Dilip Barsagde asserted that it is everyone’s responsibility not to allow child marriage to happen in our village and everyone needs to make a concerted effort for this. Child marriage is a crime under the law and legal action is taken against the parents and organizers if the law is violated. Despite all this child marriages are carried out secretly in many villages and it results in social problems like divorce, child mortality, maternal death, he pointed out.

He also said that Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi has pledged to take up the child marriage free society all over India. The SPARSH Sanstha has also decided extend its support in the task and to create public awareness about the project. The campaign will be taken out   in 61 villages of Gadchiroli, Dhanora and Chamurshi talukas of Gadchiroli district, he told.
