Gadchiroli May 28 (District Correspondent) Following the regular follow up by the Aheri Nagar Panchayat councillor Amol Gudelliwar, the work of garbage collection was finally resumed after 10 days thereby giving a major relief to the residents.
Waste collection in Aheri town had come to a complete standstill following the expiration of the previous contractor’s tenure on April 30 last. The Nagar Panchayat had failed to execute proper forward planning. Consequently, heaps of garbage accumulated throughout the town, and overflowing drains created a pervasive environment of filth, resulting in a severe stench across the town. Furthermore, with sanitation workers also were left idle at home and faced the looming threat of starvation.
Taking immediate cognizance of the numerous complaints received from the citizens and sanitation workers regarding this issue, Councillor Amol Gudelliwar had met the Chief Officer of Nagar Panchayat, Abhijit Sonawane, and issued a warning that if the issue was not resolved within the next four days, he would lead a protest along with the sanitation workers.
Responding swiftly to this, the Nagar Panchayat administration convened a meeting and a solution was accepted by the office-bearers of the Aheri Nagar Panchayat and the deadlock was finally broken. After a gap of ten days, regular waste collection and drain cleaning operations was resumed thereby giving a sigh of relief to the people.
