Gadchiroli Oct. 22 (District Correspondent) The 165th Martyrdom Day of Veer Baburao Shedmake was observed by Rashtriya Shaheed Veer Baburao Vikas Prabodhan Samiti Gadchiroli at Indira Gandhi Chowk of the city on Saturday.
Vasantrao Kulasange, founder president of Prabodhan Samiti presided over the programme. Senior journalist Rohidas Raut, Tribal activist Mukund Meshram, Republican Party District President Hansraj Undirwade, Janata Dal’s Umesh Uike, Tribal Youth Leader Kunal Kowe, Prof. Rajan Borkar, Ms. Aarti Kolhe of Jango Raitad Adivasi Mahila Samiti, were present as the chief guests.
In the beginning, tributes were paid to Veer Baburao Shedmake by offering floral garlands and lighting a lamp before the portrait of Veer Baurao. All the dignitaries present also garlanded the image of Veer Baburao and paid their respects.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vasantrao Kulasange threw light on the life history of Veer Baburao Shedmake and said that his contribution was invaluable in the freedom struggle. On this occasion, he demanded that Veer Baburao’s Martydom Day should be celebrated as Martyr’s Day on October 21 at the national level.
Calling Veer Baburao, a revolutionary warrior, Rohidas Raut said that his biography should be included in school and university curriculum so that the younger generation gets to know about him and his great sacrifice for the country.
The other distinguished guests also expressed their views on this occasion recalling the heroic work done by Veer Baburao.
Before this program, flowers and garlands were offered at the Veer Baburao Shedmake memorial at Gokul Nagar by hundreds of people. The program was moderated by Mr. Harshvardhan Kulasange and vote of thanks was given by Buddhabhushan Kulasange. A large number of citizens including Ms. Aarti Kangale, Asha Veladi, Tanuja Kumare, Sapna Varkhede, Vanita Pada attended the event.
