Gadchiroli July 3 (District Correspondent) In a historic event, Her Excellency Ms. Draupadi Murmu, the President, Government of India will confer degrees upon the students in the 10th Convocation of Gondwana University on 5th July, 2023 at 10.30 am and will deliver the convocation speech. The foundation stone of Gondwana University’s administrative building and campus proposed to be raised in the sprawling 70 acres of land near Adpalli- Gogaon on the outskirts of the city will also be laid by the President.

This was informed by Dr. Prashant Bokare, Vice Chancellor of the University in a press conference held at the university meeting hall here this morning.

Mr. Ramesh Bais, Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of the University will preside. Mr. Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Govt of India, Hansraj Ahir, Chairman of National Commission for Backward Classes, Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister will be present as the chief guests.

Mr. Chandrakantada Patil, Minister for Department of Higher and Technical Education, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Minister, Forest, Culture and Fisheries, Dharmarao Baba Atram, Minister, Dr. Prashant Bokare, Chancellor of Gondwana University and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shriram Kawle will have a special presence.

It is intended to develop a new university campus at Adpalli on 177 acres of land by 2025-26. The new university campus will be a symbol of progress, innovation and limitless possibilities for the students, hoped Dr. Bokare.

The total number of meritorious students to be conferred degrees in the convocation ceremony is 278, first meritorious students are 62, gold medallists are 39, while the total number of PhD degree students is 137. It includes 45 students of Science and Technology Faculty, 8 Faculty of Commerce and Management, 54 Faculty of Humanities, 30 Faculty of Inter Sciences. There are 20 thousand 535 graduate students in the university. It has 15230 undergraduate and 5305 postgraduate students, he informed.

To increase the university sector’s gross enrolment ratio in higher education from 14% to 20% by 2030, Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 from 2023 session, to give special status to Gondwana University as “Tribal and Forest” University, enrolment of 10,000 students by 2030 are some of the University’s dream projects, told Dr. Bokare.

 

The envisaged physical infrastructure includes administrative building, academic block vertical, University Institute of Technology, Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Research, Institute of Legal Studies and Research, Trisafe Incubation Centre, Sports Complex, Health Centre, Officers’ Residence, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Residences, construction of mega hostel and mega common mess for 10,000 students in the new campus by 2030, he further informed.

Elaborate arrangements are being made for this programme by the University administration. Also present at the press conference were Dr. Shriram Kawle, Pro VC, Dr. Anil Hirekhan, Registrar, Dr. Anil Chitade, Dean of Science and Technology department, Dr. A. Chandramouli, Dean of Humanities department, Mr. Devendra Zade, Director of Exams. Department and other officers of the university.
