Gadchiroli Feb. 8 (District Correspondent) The birth anniversary of Mata Ramabai Ambedkar was celebrated at Samyak buddha Vihara here on Wednesday jointly by Vishakha Mahila Mandal and Samyak Samaj Samiti.
Ms. Surekhatai Barsagade, social worker, presided over the programme while Ms. Sumitra Raut, President of Vishakha Mahila Mandal, Ms. Jyoti Urade of Bhartiya Bouddha Mahasabha, Ms. Ratnamala Undirwade, senior citizen and Kalpana Ramteke of RPI were the chief guests.
At the outset, Buddha Vandana was recited and portrait of Mata Ramai was garlanded by the guests.
In her speech Ms. Sumitra Raut threw light on the life of Mata Ramai, her sacrifice, struggle, dedication towards the family and said she played very important role in the life of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar which can never be forgotten. All the women should take an inspiration from her life and work for the society.
Ms. Barsagade said Mata Ramai was the best example of the ideal woman who cares for her family despite all the difficulties. She always encouraged Dr. Babasaheb for his studies and social, political work and stood behind him giving a strength to the great leader.
The other women also spoke on the occasion. The songs based on Mata Ramai were also presented by some women. Ms. Najarika Mashakhetri made an introductory speech, Ms. Aruna Raut conducted the programme and Ms. Manisha Walke proposed the vote of thanks.
Also present on the occasion were Mr. Kawduji Undirwade, Tularam Raut, Balkrishna Bambode, Pradeep Bhaisare, Sampat Godbole and a large number of people attended the programme.
