Gadchiroli July 18 (District Correspondent) due to heavy rains and discharge of water from the dams, the district of Gadchiroli has witnessed flood situation causing closure of several roads for traffic.

The red alert has also been issued by the district administration considering the overall situation and the people have been warned to avoid unnecessary travel and going near water bodies.

As many as 16 roads in the district have been closed for traffic according to information given by Disaster Management office. They include Allapalli to Bhamragad, Ashti to Chandrapur, Aheri to Mulchera via Allapalli, Aheri to Ghot via Mulchera and other internal roads which has brought the public life to a standstill.

The water level of Wainganga, Godawari, Pranhita and indravati rivers has increased due to discharge of water from Gosekhurd dam. The people living along the river sides have been asked to remain alert.

Out of total 33, as many as 21 gates of the Gosekhurd project have been opened by 0.50 metres by which 2,428 cumex water is discharged, all the 38 gates of chichdoh Barrage have been opened and 7,866 cumex water is being discharged, Deena project in the district is filled to its capacity and water is being discharged through its outlet, 35 gates of the Medigatta Barrage also have been opened and 5,727 cumex water is being discharged.

The district of Gadchiroli today received 60.05 mm rainfall with the highest 180. 2 mm rainfall in Etapalli and 117.2 mm rainfall in Mulchera.

However, there are no any reports of any loss of human life in the rainfall. The standing crops in many fields on the river sides have been inundated causing a heavy loss to these crops.
