Gadchiroli Oct. 17 (District correspondent) Gadchiroli Police and CRPF arrested one hardcore Maoist in Joint Operation today. Messo Gillu Kawado, (50) is given the name of the Maoist. Government of Maharashtra had announced a total reward of Rs 06 Lakhs for his arrest.

Based on intelligence received from reliable sources that hardcore Maoist named Messo Gillu Kawado a resident of Rekhabhatal in Etapalli taluka of the district who was ACM of Maad Supply Team, was roaming suspiciously near Jajawandi – Doddur forest area.  In light of this information, anti-Maoist operation was launched comprising of C60, Gatta Jambiya post party and CRPF 191 Bn. Jawans conducted the operation culminating in his successful arrest.

Messo was personally involved in the Hikker exchange of fire in March 2023. Accordingly, he has been arrested in the crime at Police Station, Etapalli.

This arrest is significant as Messo was the ACM of the Maad Supply Team and was involved in the supply of explosives, various gadgets and daily essentials to the Maoists. He worked alongside DVC Chainuram alias Sukku Watte Korsa who was arrested on Oct. 14 last. With these two arrests within 4 days, Maoists have received a severe blow.

Before the year 2017, he was involved in the supply of logistics to the Maoists and giving information about Police Party arrival etc.  He was recruited as a member in Supply team in the year 2017 and worked until 2023. In 2023, he was promoted to ACM.

He was involved in 2 encounters – 02, 2 murders – 02, 1 arson – 01. The state government had announced a reward of Rs. 06 lakhs for his arrest.

Gadchiroli district has been infested with the menace of Maoism since 1980s. During this period, Maoists have indulged in brutal murders of innocent civilians, obstruction of development works through arson, and extortion of various contractors etc.

Due to the intensified operations conducted by the Gadchiroli Police, a total of 72 hardcore Maoists have been arrested since January 2022. This action was undertaken under the guidance of Mr. Neelotpal, Superintendent of Police, Anuj Tare, Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops.), Kumar Chintha, Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin.), and  Yatish Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Aheri and leadership of  Bapurao Dadas, SDPO Hedri and Officer Commanding E/191 Mohit Kumar AC.

Furthermore, Mr. Neelotpal, SP Gadchiroli has appealed to active Maoist cadres to renounce the path of violence and surrender in order to live their lives with dignity.
