Gondwana University has become first in the state to conduct Senate elections.

Gadchiroli Sept. 9 (District Correspondent) Gondwana University of Gadchiroli has become the first University in the state of Maharashtra to hold the elections to the Senate and various other authorities in the university under Maharashtra Public University Act 2016.

The elections were held successfully on Sept. 4 last and their results too were declared after round the clock counting of votes for more than 40 hours under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare and monitoring of the Registrar and Election Officer Dr. Anil Hirekhan,

As many as 88 candidates had stood in the election fray for a total of 33 seats from three groups namely Principal, Teacher and Graduate of Gondwana University Senate.

10 representatives were to be elected from the teacher’s constituency. For this, 42 candidates had entered the election fray. 5 candidates were to be selected from the open group and 21 candidates were contesting for it. 5 candidates, one each from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Women were to be elected. For this, 4 candidates had entered the fray from the first 4 categories in each and 5 candidates from the women’s category, according to university press release.

2 candidates each from science and technology, humanities, commerce and management, interfaculty were to be elected from the university council. All candidates’ applications for interfaculty group were disqualified. Candidates from the reserved category in the remaining three branches have been elected unopposed. In the open group, 3 candidates were in the fray from science and technology, 4 from humanities, and 2 from commerce and management.

Gondwana University has thus become the first university in the state to hold the elections. The center- wise voter lists of 36 polling stations were prepared and published on the university website to facilitate the voters to see it easily.

The term of office of all the authorities had expired on 31st August 2022 and it was necessary to conduct the elections of the authorities for the smooth functioning of the administration of the University. Therefore, the elections to various authorities were held on September 4.  The counting of votes was done held on September 7 and 8.

The necessary training was given to the employees of both Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts for the smooth and fair conduct of the elections so that the employees will not face any problem during the election process.

Director of Examination and Evaluation Board Dr. Anil Chitade, Founder of Science and Technology. Dr. Rajeev Veginwar, Dean of Faculty of Humanities.  Dr. A. Chandramouli, Dr. Manish Uttarwar, Dr. Shyam Khandare, Dr. Deo and  the other staff of the university worked tirelessly for  successfully conducting the elections.
