Buddha Jayanti celebrated at Gadchiroli with enthusiasm-hundreds participate.

Gadchiroli May 2 (District Correspondent) The Buddha has always preached compassion (karuna). It has been one of the most important factors of his teachings to the human society. This bond of compassion is necessary for the effective use of the mantra of ‘educate, organize and agitate’ given by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

This was stated by Dr. Nikhil Sanjay Rekha Adsule, well known Buddhist thinker and senior research fellow at IIT Delhi while speaking at the buddha Jayanti programme at Rajiv Gandhi Sabhagriha here on Friday evening.

The programme was organized with the joint auspices of Buddhist Society of India (BSI) and various social organizations of the city that was presided over by BSI district president Tularam Raut. Bhante Buddha Jyoti Staveer, senior Buddhist monk, Dr. Shilpa Athawale of the Gondwana University, Ms. Surekha Barsagade, district chief of BSI women’s wing were prominently present as the chief guests.

Speaking further Dr. Adsule, in his thoughtful speech said the Buddha told the principles of equality, liberty, fraternity in His Dhamma, the very principles were later adopted in the Constitution of India by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. These principles are not borrowed from the French Revolution, as advocated by some people, he explained.

Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha is quite necessary for the welfare of the human society which gives positive approach and strength to march ahead despite the difficulties. In Dhamma, importance has been given to women and there were many women in buddha’s Sangha, he asserted calling upon the people to follow the ideals of Buddhism.

Dr. Athawale said the entire world is now accepting Buddhism because of its qualities of peace, compassion and non-violence. Buddha stood firmly against the ill practices and gave Buddhism to the world. The teachings of Buddha will bring about welfare of the human society.

In his presidential speech, Mr. Tularam Raut said the teaching of Buddha that enmity can’t be ended by enmity, it can only be brought to an end by love and compassion, needs to be propagated in the present times for the peaceful existence of the society. Budhha Jayanti will spread this message, he hoped.

The beautiful dances based on Buddha life were presented by the students of Buddhist International School attracted the attention of all those present and were highly appreciated. Ms. Ratnamala Walke, mother of IAS achiever Rajat Walke and Mr. Ajay Sahare, Principal of Buddhist School were felicitated on the occasion. During the event, Dr. Ujjwala Shende distributed donated kheer, Bhim Kanya Group distributed Sharbat and Kalidas Raut of the Samidha college of civil Services arranged for drinking water.

Prof. Gautam Dange made an introductory speech, Dr. Dilip Barsagade introduced the guests, Mr. Gautam Meshram conducted the programme and Moresh Ambade proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of people attended the programme. Mr. Lahu Ramteke, Suryabhan Ghutke, Ramesh Dongre, Siddharth Khobragade, Sukhdev Wasnik, Sumitra Raut, Leena Dholne, Pratibha Ramteke, Pornima Durge, and Pratima Sahare extended their cooperation for the success of this program.
