Gadchiroli May 19 (District Correspondent) Maharashtra State contractual Nurses Union has demanded that the ANMs working with the National Rural Health mission (NRHM) be regularized in government services immediately.

Addressing a press conference at the Press club here this afternoon, Ms. Amita Nagdeote, district President of the union told that hundreds of ANMs have been working with NRHM for the last over 17 years on contract basis on nominal wages and rendering the health services to the people honestly.

However even after repeated requests and agitations, they have not been regularized in services and are still doing their jobs facing financial crisis. They have rendered important services during the corona pandemic at the cost of their own health, told Ms. Nagdeote.

Between March 13 and 17 last, a state wide dharna agitation was staged at Azad Maidan Mumbai to raise the demand. After this agitation, the Minister for Health had given clearcut assurance to regularise the services of ANMs by March 31. The Aurangabad bench of the Mumbai high court had also ordered the state government to regularize the ANMS by March 31, she pointed out.

Even after all this, the state government has been deliberately neglecting our demand and the ANMs are subjected to face hardships. The state government should therefore immediately regularise all the ANMs and remove the injustice meted out to them, she demanded.

The ANMs in the state will work with black badges from June 1 next and will stage indefinite dharna agitation from June 15 if the demand is not fulfilled by then, Nagdeote warned.

Also present at the press conference were Ms. Sharmila Janbandhu, vice President, Pradnya Namewar, Asmita Lonare, Varsha Kolte, Shubhangi Suramwar.
