Gadchiroli April 10 (District Correspondent) More than five decades after enduring a traumatic incident that reshaped India’s legal framework on custodial sexual assault, ‘Mathura’ today lives in extreme hardship in a remote part of Maharashtra. Her case, which once led to nationwide protests and significant amendments in law, exposed deep systemic gaps and brought justice reform into focus.

At 72, she now faces severe challenges — living in a fragile hut, struggling with paralysis, and lacking access to basic necessities like food, healthcare, and proper shelter. Despite her role in shaping the legal safeguards that protect millions today, her own condition reflects neglect and exclusion from essential welfare systems.

Upon reviewing the condition of the victim and her family, it was observed that their living circumstances were extremely poor and required immediate intervention.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation Mr. Mukesh Gupta, Chairman of Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd. through Lloyds Infinite Foundation (LIF), has recently disbursed financial assistance of Rs.5 lakhs under its CSR initiative. The funds have been provided to support the construction of a safe and stable house, along with addressing other essential needs to improve her quality of life.

Mr. B. Prabakaran, Managing Director of Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd., noted that while Mathura’s story has had a profound impact, her own life has not been met with the same compassion. “It is deeply painful to witness someone of her significance still striving for basic dignity,” he stated. Through the Lloyds Infinite Foundation, he emphasized a commitment to standing by her—ensuring she finally receives the care, respect, and dignity she deserves.

In addition, the beneficiary has been aligned with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), ensuring long-term housing support through government schemes.

The support extended by LIF aims to complement existing government efforts and bridge last-mile gaps in welfare delivery. The government authorities have also been informed and are expected to ensure that the beneficiary continues to receive support under applicable schemes.
