Gadchiroli Feb. 17 (District Correspondent) Inter caste and inter religion married couple were felicitated by the district branch of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti (MANS) at a programme held at Parishram Bhavan here on Sunday.
Mr. Rohidas Raut, senior journalist, presided over the programme while Mr. Nitin Gawande, Additional Collector, Dr. Ananta Kumbhare, well known medical practitioner, Mr. Vilas Nimborkar, state secretary of MANS, Mr. Dewaji Sontakke, social worker, Samsherkhan Pathan, retired principal, Pandurang Nagapure of Maratha Sewa Sangha were prominently present.
As many as 9 inter caste and inter religion married couples from the city were felicitated on the occasion by presenting them rose flowers, magazines and calendars of MANS.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Gawande appreciated the venture of Maha Anis and said it will certainly help in encouraging the other youths to get inter caste and inter religion marriages solemnized. Such marriages are the important medium of creating social equality and removing caste barriers from the society, he hoped.
Mr. Raut congratulated the couples and said their examples will create a new ideal before the youths and more youths will come forward. Removing caste discrimination and creating a society based on the human values is the need of the hour and, he opined.
Mr. Vilas Nimborkar gave the details of the venture and said that the Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti has been working on different social issues apart from the superstition eradication.
The couple also expressed their views and narrating their stories. We have been lading a happy married life despite the inter caste and inter religion marriages, they told appealing the society to encourage such marriages.
Mr. Vitthalrao Kothare made an introductory speech, Ms. Anjuum Sheikh and Shiwram Mongarkar conducted the programme and Mr. Haridas Kotrange proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of MANS workers, citizens attended the programme.
