Gadchiroli Jan. 4 (District Correspondent) Mr. Aziz alias Banty Hamid Nathani of the city has been selected for this year’s Gadchiroli Gaurav Award, presented by the Gadchiroli Press Club.

The award will be presented to Mr. Nathani by the Gadchiroli Press Club on Jan. 6 next, at a Journalists’ Day ceremony organized at District Central Cooperative Bank auditorium.

In 1972, along with his colleagues, he founded the Platinum Jubilee Education Society and started the Platinum Jubilee School. Notably, this is the first English medium school in Gadchiroli district. For the past 50 years, the school has not only been active in this tribal-dominated district and enriching the field of education.

Aziz Nathani developed the school’s curriculum by liaising with Aga Khan Education Services, India (AKES, I) based in Mumbai and educational institutions based in London. He is providing world-class educational facilities to poor tribal students at nominal fees. Many officers and entrepreneurs and other professionals have emerged from this school.

He was a member of the National Disaster Assistance and Response Team (NDART), a European-based NGO affiliated with FOCUS. During the 2005 Jammu and Kashmir earthquake, Nathani personally stayed and provided services in four villages in the Uri district. He has erected the tallest flag post in front of the school where national flag flies 24 hours a day.

In recognition of his contributions, he will be honoured with the Gadchiroli Gaurav Award by the Press Club.
