Gadchiroli March 14 (District correspondent) The parents of one Gaurav Vilas Gedam who was studying in std. XII th in Provincial convent, Butibori near Nagpur have alleged that their son died due to negligence of the Warden and Head Master of his school. They have demanded that a case of homicide be registered against the guilty for causing this death.

Addressing a press conference at the Press club here along with the representatives of various tribal organizations, Mr. Vilas Gedam father and Ms. Vidya, mother of the deceased student told that on March 3 last Gaurav had told them over phone that he was not getting well but he is not being taken to any doctor.

On March 7 Gaurav’s friend called us and told that he (Gaurav) has been admitted in the Medical College of Nagpur. On getting this news, we rushed to the Medical College but were not allowed to meet our son. Even after our repeated requests, the school staff present in the hospital did not allow us to meet our son on the one pretext or other, told the parents. On the next day we were told that Gaurav has died and his dead body was shown to us in the mortuary of the hospital.

This clearly shows that the school staff was hiding something from us. The death of our son Gaurav has occurred only due to negligence of the warden and head master in providing timely medical treatment to the boy. Had he been given the medical treatment on time, he would not have died, they claimed.

The parents demanded that a case of homicide be registered against the two and stringent action be taken against them. Also present at the press conference were Mr. Ashok Tumram, President of Adi Jan Chetna Jagar, Priyadarshan Madavi, Wanishyam Yerme, Madhao Gawad, Sadanand Taram of All India Adiwasi Employees Federation, Pradeep Kulsange of Adiwasi Ekta Yuwa Samiti, Manik Gedam, Arun Shedmake and others.

Mr. Ashok Tumram also held the school staff fully responsible for the death of a young student saying that it because of their inexcusable negligence that a young tribal student who was the only hope of his poor parents, has to lose his life. The tribal organizations will launch an intensive agitation if no action is taken against the school staff, he warned.
