Gadchiroli Feb. 8 (District Correspondent) It is necessary to develop interest in reading during the student life itself and one can change himself through reading, said Padmashri Dr. Parashuram Khune.

The book festival organized by Higher and Technical Education Department, Directorate of Libraries, District Library Officer and Education Department was inaugurated by him on Tuesday at the ZP High school here.

Mr.  Bhaurao Patre, Secretary of Nagpur Division Library Federation, presided over the program while District Library Association President Jagdish Mhaske, Litterateur Vasant Kulasange, Education Officer Rajkumar Nikam, Distt Information Officer Sachin Adsul District Library Officer Ramdas Sathe, Prof. Manish Shete were prominently present.

Dr. Khune further said that Sant tukdoji Maharaj, Saint Dnyaneshwar as well as Saint Tukaram Maharaj are precious to us today even though they did not study in any big university. There are many great talented people who read the thoughts of great personalities and brought about change in their lives. He thanked the government for honouring him with the Padma Shri award.

He said that he is dedicating it to the lovers of Zadipatti. Along with reading the books, everyone should also read the people. He called upon the people to imbibe various ideas from reading and develop a good artist in themselves.

Mr.  Sachin Adsul explained the importance of reading to the students. He said, today children have got so much freedom of mobile phones, movies and television through which they are expressing their thoughts. In fact, they should develop their own thinking through reading, he suggested.

Mr. Rajkumar Nikam made an introductory speech. Mr. Bhaurao Patre thanked the organizers for organizing the book fair, Ms.  Sandhya Yerekar moderated the programme and Jagdish Mhaske gave the vote of thanks.

At the outset, a Granth Dindi was taken out in Gadchiroli city. The students of Shivaji High School, Vasant Vidyalaya, Navajeevan, School of Scholars, Platinum, Caramel, Shivkripa, Bhagwantrao Hindi High School, Zilla Complex High School, Gondwana Sainiki Vidyalaya, Rani Durgavati High School participated in the Granth Dindi in the costumes of saints, social reformers and various thinkers.

A seminar was organized in the afternoon. Gram Gitacharya Bandopant Bodhekar,  Dr. Savita Sadamwar, Prof. Manish Shete spoke in the seminar. After that cultural activities were organized in the evening.

A large number of students and book lovers attended the programme.
