Gadchiroli April 15 (District Correspondent) Mr. Vasantrao Kulsange, the founder president of Veer Baburao Adivasi Vikas Prabodhan Samiti has demanded that great freedom fighter Veer Baburao Shedmake who sacrificed his life for the freedom struggle be honoured with Bharat Ratna award.
In a memorandum sent to the central government, Mr. Kulsange has said that Veer Baburao has done tremendous revolution during 1857 freedom struggle and is known as the hero of the rebellion against the Britishers. He was hanged by the British government on 21st October 1858 for his heroic deeds. The name of Gadchiroli district will be written in golden letters in the history of Indian freedom struggle if the prestigious award is bestowed upon this great son of the soil, Kulsange added.
Kulsange further demanded that Ghot village, the birthplace of Veer Baburao Shedmake, should be given the status of Tehsil, Adivasi Sevak Award should be given to a social worker in the tribal community, Veer Baburao Shedmake’s martydom day should be observed on October 21 as “National Martydom Day”, calling Adiwasis as Wanvasis be legally banned and action be taken against those using this word for the tribals, Veer Baburao Shedmake Martyr Museum should be established at Ghot fort and the images of the martyrs of the freedom struggle should be preserved in the museum.
