Gadchiroli July 5 (District Correspondent) Stating that the students have important role in the progress of the society and the country, President of India her excellency Draupadi murmur has called upon the students to take forward the society besides fulfilling their own dreams and aspirations. ‘Write the chapter of success, face the difficulties bravely and shine the name of the country all over the world, she advised.

Ms. Murmu was addressing the 10 the convocation of the Gondwana University at a specially erected pandal in the university premises this morning. She also laid the foundation stone of the University’s new complex at Adpalli village virtually on the occasion.

Mr. Ramesh Bais, governor of Maharashtra, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Hansraj Ahir, chairman of Backward Classes Commission, Devendra Fadnavis, Dy. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungantiwar, minister of forests and cultural affairs, Chandrakant Dada Patil, Minister for higher and Technical Education, Dr. Vijaykumar Gawit, Minister for Tribal Development and Dr. Prashant Bokare, Vice Chancellor of the University  were prominently present on the occasion.

Education is important for the progress of the society and it is a good thing that the tribal youths are being provided higher education in a backward place like Gadchiroli. Students should conduct research in climate change and environmental degradation, she suggested.

Tribals have a relation with the nature. They have a wonderful art of living their lives. We all should make efforts for their all-round progress and the university and students can perform better role in this task, Murmu asserted.

If collective efforts are made, this district will not remain backward, it will come at par with the developed districts, she hoped and called upon the people and the government to work shoulder to shoulder with determination for the development.

Ms. Murmu extended her best wishes to the medal winning students for their bright future. She also appreciated the initiative of the Gondwana university to provide various skill- based trainings and education and expressed satisfaction over the girl student’s success in winning medals. The University is being strengthened with knowledge, science and moral values and the students here will certainly contribute in the development of the country, she hoped.

As many as 6 selective students were conferred medals at the hands of the President at this programme. They were Lokesh Halami, Amit Gohne, Arpita Thombre, Sadaf Ansari, Santosh Shinde and Sarika Manthanwar.

Governor Ramesh Bais said the identity of Gadchiroli should be identified as the world centre of tribal culture. He suggested to start courses based on eco -tourism, bamboo technology and other forest produces that can yield employment to the local youths. Tribals have protected the forests and they should get the share of profit occurring from the forest, he opined.

Mr. Nitin Gadkari, in his speech said this day will be written in golden letters as the President of India has visited one of the most backward and aspirational districts in the country. He asked the university to provide need based and society-based research opportunities to the students.

University is an ocean of knowledge and the district will become a growth engine with the higher education and will go further in the direction of making self-dependent India, he hoped. The university will enable the students to imbibe good values and bringing them into main stream of development, he stated.

Mr. Fadnavis said the district is blessed with forest, land, water and rich minerals. It will have important contribution in the economic growth of Maharashtra. The university will create trained human resource that will get employment through the industries being run here, he hoped.

A medical college has been sanctioned for this district and soon airport will also be started, he declared. The district has a rich heritage of tribal culture and tribal rulers and it will become more prosperous in the coming days, he asserted.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare delivered an introductory speech and gave the details of the progress achieved by the university since its inception. Many new projects of education and skill development have been started by the university and a new campus is proposed to be raised in 170 acres of land with all the facilities, he informed.

Also present on the occasion were Mr. Ashok Nete, MP, Dr. Deorao holi, Krishna Gajbhe, MLAs, Dr. Ramdas Ambatkar, Sudhakar Adbale, MLCs, Shobhatai Fadnavis, former minister, Sanjay Meena, District Collector, Kumar Ashirwad, CEO of Zilla Parishad, Dr. Vijay Ainchwar,  Dr. Namdeo Kalyankar, Dr. Kirtivardhan Dixit, former VCs, Dr. Shriram Kawle, Pro VC, Gaurishankar Parasahr, former Pro VC, Puran Meshram, former Registrar of RSTM Nagpur University, Dr. A. Chandramouli, Dean of Humanities, Dr. Anil Chitade, Dean of Science and Technology and others.

At the outset, the President and other guests were taken to the venue in a ceremonial academic procession led by Registrar Dr. Anil Hirekhan. A strict security arrangement was maintained in the premises in view of the programme.

Dr. Narendra Arekar and Dr. Shilpa Athawale conducted the programme that was attended by large number of students, teachers, parents, senate members, university staff and prominent citizens.
