Gadchiroli Oct. 7 (District Correspondent) A hardcore Woman Maoist Rajani alias Kalawati Samayya Veladi, (28) surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli Mr. Nilotpal today. She was welcomed by Mr. Nilotpal by giving her bouquet at the police headquarters here today.
Rajani is a resident of Irupgutta, Taluka Bhopalpattanam in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. She was recruited as a member with Farsegadh LOS in Aug. 2009 and worked until 2010. She was transferred to the Orchha LOS in 2010 and worked until 2013. Later on, she was promoted to the post of ACM and transferred to the National Park Area Doctor team in 2013 and worked until 2015. Again, she was transferred to Sandra LOS in 2015 and worked till date there. She was involved in 4 encounters, 1 murder, 1 arson.
According to the police, the reasons for her surrender are that senior Maoists never used the money for people’s development. Women are discriminated by seniors. Senior Maoists exploited the poor tribal youths for their benefit. Married dalam members could not live an independent married life. Due to the aggressive anti-Maoist operations of the Gadchiroli Police, moving in the forest had become dangerous. Fellow tribals were killed based solely on suspicion of being police informers. During encounters, male Maoists ran away leaving woman Maoists to fend for themselves and often got killed. Senior Maoist cadres don’t pay attention to medical problems of party members etc.
Maharashtra Government had declared a reward of Rs. 6 lakhs and the Chhattisgarh Government had declared a reward of Rs. 5 lakhs on her head, told the SP. After surrender, Rajani will receive Rs. 4.50 lakhs which is the reward declared by the Central & Maharashtra governments for rehabilitation, told the SP further.
Due to the intensified anti-Maoist operations conducted by Gadchiroli police and the opportunity provided by the government for Maoists to surrender and lead a respectful life, 13 hardcore Maoists have surrendered before the Gadchiroli police from the year 2022 till date. Mr. Neelotpal, Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to those willing to surrender and join the mainstream society, embracing the ways of democracy. Furthermore, he appealed to active Maoists to renounce the path of violence and adopt the path of peace.
Disillusioned by the hollow claims of Maoism and frustrated by their mindless violence against civilians, a large number of members of the banned CPI (Maoist) are attracted to the Surrender cum Rehabilitation Policy of the Government of Maharashtra. Due to the effective implementation of this Policy, a total of 586 active Maoists till date have surrendered before the Gadchiroli Police, told Mr. Nilotpal.
Mr. Anuj Tare, Kumar Chinta, Yatish Deshmukh, Additional SPs were also present at the press conference.
