Raje Ambrishrao’s initiative for Chenna Project.

Gadchiroli Jan. 14 (District Correspondent) With the initiative of former Minister of State Raje Ambrishrao Atram, the issue of Chenna Irrigation Project, which has been pending for the last 40 years is likely to be resolved soon.

Raje Ambrishrao Atram met with a delegation from Mulchera and held a meeting with the Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. There was a positive discussion in this meeting to complete the Chenna project. Mr. Mungantiwar assured that the Forest Department will fully cooperate and provide necessary funds for the project. He also directed that the Irrigation Department should take the initiative in this task. An important meeting will be held in this regard under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis next week and there is hope once again that this project will be on track.

Chenna Irrigation Project worth Rs.1.82 crore was approved on May 13, 1977.  By 1980-81, nearly 70 percent of the project was completed. After that, the construction came to a standstill due to obstruction of the Forest Act. In 2014, BJP government came to power at the Centre and the state, it was hoped that the problem of this irrigation project would be solved after getting the certificate from the forest department. However, the problem of Chenna irrigation project has not been solved as yet, reminded Mr. Atram in the meeting and urged him to complete the project.

Principal Secretary of Forest Department Naresh Zurmare, Mr. Ramteke of Irrigation Department, Conservator of Forests of Gadchiroli Ramesh Kumar, Conservator of Forests, Alapalli Rahul Singh Tolia, Sub Divisional Officer of Chamorshi Uttam Todsam, Tehsildar of Mulchera Chetan Patil and Bengali Aghadi Vidarbha in-charge Deepak Haldar, BJP District Vice President Prakash Dutta, Shailendra Kharati, BJP Mulchera Taluk President Sanjeev Sarkar, BJP District Secretary Badal Shah, Taluka General Secretary Subhash Ganpati, Bengali Aghadi District General Secretary Bidhan Vaidya, Vijay Biswas, Bepari and others were present in the meeting.
