Gadchiroli March 28 (District Correspondent) ‘The Constitution of India drafted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has empowered the Dalits and backwards and enabled them to live a dignified life. However, efforts are being made by some fundamentalist forces to weaken this Constitution. But people of this country will thwart such efforts. No power on the earth can wipe out the Constitution and ideology of Babasaheb’.
This was stated by Mr. Vijay Wadettiwar, former Minister and senior Congress leader while speaking at the unveiling of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s life size statue at village Ambeshioni near here on Sunday.
The programme was organized by Bouddha Samaj and Takhasheela Buddha Vihar that was presided over by Mr. Rohidas Raut, Central vice President of All India Republican Party. Bhante Trisharan Panchasheel Sanghawat, Buddhist Monk, Dr. Deorao Holi, MLA, Dr. Namdeo Usendi, former MLA, Dr. Namdeo Kirsan, General Secretary of Maharashtra Congress, Adv. Rambhau Meshram, former ZP councillor, Hansraj Undirwade, District President of RPI, Pradeep Bhaisare, Assembly Chief of RPI, Vijay Bansod, Ms. Kavita Madavi, Ms. Sarita Tembhurne, Sarpancha were the chief guests.
Speaking further, Mr. Wadettiwar lashed out at the present government alleging that the reservation of the backward classes is being denied, democratic rights of the people are suppressed and principles of secularism are destroyed to bring the rule of a particular ideology. This is very dangerous for the country and the progress of its people. The country has to be run by the principles of the Constitution or else the citizens will arise and revolt, he warned.
In his presidential speech Mr. Rohidas Raut said the Constitution and Buddhism are the two greatest things given by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to this country. Babasaheb is known world over because of his great work towards human welfare and his memorials and statues have been raised throughout the world. This is the matter of pride for every Indian. The ideology based on equality and fraternity alone can bring about welfare of the countrymen and that has to be preserved and protected, he remarked.
The other guests also expressed their views on the occasion and highlighted the work of Dr. Ambedkar. At the outset, Buddha Vandana was recited by Bhante Trisharan Panchasheel, Flag was hoisted at the hands of Mr. Rohidas Raut to mark the beginning of the programme.
Ms. Sunita Raut made an introductory speech, Jagan Jambhulkar conducted the programme and Balkrishna Raut proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of people from the nearby villages attended the programme. The musical programme of well-known singer Vikas Raja was presented in the night.
