Gadchiroli April 18 (District Correspondent) The Gadchiroli police have finally succeeded in finding out the murderer of Ms. Kalpana Undirwade, a retired Zilla Parishad officer from Navegaon who was murdered on April 13 last at around 12:30 pm.
The incident had created quite a sensation in the city as the murder was committed in the broad daylight.
After a crucial enquiry, one Vishal Ishwar Walke (45), a resident of Etapalli has been taken into custody from Pune and brought to Gadchiroli today. Vishal was living in Undirwade’s house on rent. In order to snatch Undirwade’s jewelry, he killed Undirwade by hitting her with a hammer.
While everything was in order till Sunday morning, Kalpana Undirwade’s body was suddenly found at her house around noon. There were signs of assault on her body. There was no quarrel of the deceased with anyone, hence the question arose as to who might have killed her suddenly.
After Undirwade’s funeral, the police started the investigation. Three tenants lived on the upper floor of Undirwade’s house and Vishal Walke lived on the ground floor. He was at home until the murder. However, after the murder, he suddenly disappeared. This matter shocked the police. When he was contacted on his cell phone, his phone was sometimes showing switched off and sometimes on. This increased the suspicion of the police on him. Also, since he changed cities from time to time, it was difficult to arrest him. Finally, with the help of Pune police, Gadchiroli police arrested accused Vishal from Shivajinagar, Pune and brought him to Gadchiroli.
Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Nilotpal, Additional SP Yatish Deshmukh, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Suraj Jagtap, Police Inspector Arun Phegde, Police Inspector Revchand Singanjude, LCB’s Dulat, API Rahul Awhad, Gadchiroli Police Station’s API Vijay Chavan, PSI Deepak Chavan, PSI Vishakha Mhetre and police personnel from the DB squad worked hard to arrest the accused.
Accused Vishal Walke had been living on rent at Kalpana Undirwade’s house for two years. Since the unknown accused in the said crime did not leave any evidence or link behind, it was a big challenge for the Gadchiroli Police to find and arrest the unknown accused in the said crime. In order to expose the said crime and arrest the accused, three investigation teams were formed under the leadership of SDPO Suraj Jagtap.
After this, the investigation teams, with the help of witnesses and other evidence, detained the suspect named Vishal Ishwar Walke, for investigation. When he was further questioned in connection with the crime, it was found that he had committed the crime.
The accused entered the house of the deceased woman landlord Kalpana Undirwade on April 13 with the intention of stealing her jewelry as he had a heavy debt on his head. It was found that he killed Kalpana Undirwade by hitting her on the head with a weapon and then fled from there with the ornaments on her body.
In the absence of any evidence in the said crime, the Gadchiroli Police Force has succeeded in identifying the accused and arresting him on the basis of confidential information and revealing a very serious and complex crime.
The accused was produced before the JMFC Court here today who granted police custody remand to the accused till April 22 next. Further investigation into the said crime is being conducted by SDPO Suraj Jagtap.
