MG College holds seminar on ‘Empowerment of Tribal Women’.

Gadchiroli March 16 (District Correspondent) The Department of Sociology of Mahatma Gandhi Art Science College Armori had organized a one-day seminar on ‘Empowerment of Tribal Women in India: Issues, Challenges and Perspective’ under the guidance of Lal Singh Khalsa with the help of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) New Delhi.

The seminar was inaugurated at the hands of Ms. Ayushi singh, CEO of Zilla Parishad. Ms. Sunitatai Wanmali, President of Manoharbhai Education Society, Mr. Manojbhau Wanmali, Deepak Behere, Deepak Wanmali, Namdevrao Sorte, Lakshmitai Mane, Subhadtai Deshmukh, Manisha Donadkar, Dr. Priyanka Shedmake, Kanchan Uike, Lakshmitai Mane, Venutai Dhavgaye, Dr. Gajendra Kadhav, Prof. Sunanda Kumre were prominently present.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Singh said although men and women are working equally in all fields today, men are given priority. Why not the women, she asked. She expressed the need for self-reliance and self-determination for economic, social and political empowerment of women.

Mr. Wanmali said the institute produced many students in the rural areas. Today they have achieved big positions and are doing social work and are awarded for their work. He appealed the students to do similar work in future.

On this occasion Ms. Shubdatai Deshmukh narrated her work experience. Indian women were the first in the world to get the right to vote through the constitution. Although the women’s struggle started with the textile mill movement of America, Savitribai Phule, Mahatma Phule, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s contribution for the upliftment of Indian women is great, she stated.

Principal Lal Singh Khalsa appreciated the women working for the society and said the college feels proud in felicitating them because they have dedicated themselves to the society and women’s development. It is an inspiring occasion for the girls of our college.

On this occasion, women doing social service were felicitated by the college. They included Mrs. Manisha Donadkar, Laxmitai Mane, Venutai Dhavgaye, Geetatai Garode, Mrs. Dr. Chhaya Uike, Mrs. Kanchan Uike, Jyoti Rakshe, Shalinitai Gedam, Mausumitai Gangwe, Jayashree Chaudhary, Dr. Madhuri Salame, Principal, N.P. Armory, Yogitatai Dhatrak, Sangita Tumbade and Kumaribai Jamkatan, Archana Janganwar, Chhaya Kharkate, Nisha Jambhulkar, Amrapali Lingayat, Amita Madavi, Kalpana Naitam.

Dr. Ravindra Vikhar conducted the programme and Dr. Rajendra Kadhav proposed the vote of thanks. For the success of the seminar, Vice Principal Dr. Chandrakant Dorlikar, Dr. Kishore Vasurke, Dr. Chhagan Mungmode, Dr. Vasantha Kahalkar, Dr. Jayesh Papadkar, Dr. Vijay Raivatkar, Prof. Shashikant Gedam, Prof. Gajanan Borkar as well as professors of the college made efforts. Many research students, professors presented their research essays in this seminar. More than 400 researchers, professors and students participated in this seminar.
