Gadchiroli March 4 (District Correspondent) Well known poetess and tribal activist Kusum Alam participated in the national convention of tribal women that was held at the Constitution Club in New Delhi recently.

For the first time in the country, struggling women from all over the country had come together and decided to provide a programme of the tribal development to the government. After detailed deliberations in the one-day convention, several resolutions relating to the tribals were passed and demands were raised.

Tribal women should be given due representation in the central and state women’s commissions, women’s protection cells should be established at village panchayat level, forest-based employment law be enacted, separate budget for women be provided were some of the resolutions.

Ms. Saida Hameed from New Delhi, Nisha Siddhu from Rajasthan, Mamta Kujur, from Chhattisgarh, Vijay Pratap, Dr. Kanwaljit Dhillo, Rama Khalkho, Dr. Vasvi Kido, Aloka Kujur, Dr. Nitisha Khalkho Jharkhand, Dr. Grace, Jyo, Jarzokam Manipur, Sadhana Meena, Dr. Hira Meena and women activists from seventeen states participated in this convention.

They expressed their views on women’s rights, forest conservation rules, water, forest land, violence against women, culture, customs, language, etc. Adivasi Mahila Mahasabha from Chhattisgarh gave special support to the convention.
