Gadchiroli Feb. 13 (District correspondent) The farmers from village Konsari in Chamorshi taluka have strongly opposed the process of land acquisition being done by MIDC and the district administration.

As the officials of the MIDC, Revenue and police department reached village Konsari for the actual measurement of the agricultural land, the farmers objected them. If our land is acquired by the government, we will lose our source of livelihood and will be left nowhere, that is why we don’t want to sale precious lands, told the farmers.

The rates offered by the MIDC are very low which are not enough for our future, said the farmers further. We have already submitted a memorandum to the Land Acquisition Officer in this regard much earlier but instead of discussing the issue, the officials reached the village for the process of land acquisition which is not acceptable to us, they told the reporters.

The MIDC had already issued a notification in November last year regarding the acquisition of 898 hectares of agricultural land from four villages- Mudholi Chak, Mudholi Rith, Konsari and Jayrampur. The farmers are however opposing the move since the publication of the notification, it should be mentioned here.

A steel project is being raised by the Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd. near village Konsari in Chamorshi taluka for which the company needs land. The project work is already in progress but it requires more land for its expansion. The opposition of the farmers in handing over their land is likely to hamper the project work. The farmers from other villages also have been opposing the acquisition of their land.

Mr. Shrikant Pawde, Sarpanch of Konsari, Sanjay Joshi, Ratan Akkewar, Dilip Manapure, Vipul Potrajwar, Chandrakant bongirwar, Hari tore, Sanjay Kumre are leading the farmers. The farmers have also planned a massive agitation in this regard in the near future.
