Students submitting memorandum to Pro VC

Gadchiroli Feb. 1 (District correspondent) The students of Gondwana University have demanded that Immediate action should be taken against the coach and team manager who misbehaved with the girls’ team of inter-varsity ball badminton players held in Chennai recently.

A delegation of these girl students met the Pro VC of the University recently Dr. Shriram Kawle an Diretor of Sports Prof. Anita Lokhande and submitted him a memorandum in this regard.

Inter University Ball Badminton Tournament was held between 27th to 30th January 2023 at Abdul Rahman Centre for Science and Technology, Chennai.  While it was necessary to send female coach and manager with the girls’ team, the university sent both the male Vijay Somkuvar as manager and Rakesh Hazare as a coach with the girl’s team, pointed out the memorandum.

But in Chennai, the manager Vijay Somkuvar and the coach Rakesh Hazare started to trouble the players and students under the influence of alcohol from the very first day. Not only this, the twosome went the rooms of students of Mumbai and Amravati University in the pretext of charging their mobile phones and harassed them under the influence of alcohol. The girls were quite frightened over the behaviour of the coach and manager, said the memorandum.

The team director has not also given travel allowance and special allowance to the student players. Sports students were put to inconvenience while traveling in the train. When the director was told about this inconvenience, he did not pay any attention and behaved rudely with them, alleged the girls.

When the girl students came back to Gadchiroli on January 30, they narrated the incident to district youth president of NCP, Liladhar Bharadkar who immediately met the Pro VC and complained with him and demanded immediate action into the matter besides registering a criminal case against the coach and the manager of the girls’ team.

The Youth NCP has warned to launch an intensive agitation if immediate action is not taken against the said coach and manager. Also present in the delegation were Prasad Pawar, Chetan Pendam, Amol Kulmethe, Chetan Gaddewar, Payal Sahare, Ashwini Gowardhan and other youth NCP activists.

Gondwana University Ball Badminton players Barkha Yadav, Rani Gond, Gyaneshree Gonnade, Sakshi Umate, Pooja Naitam, Vaibhavi Dhodere, Shruti Dhote, Shruti Yete, Shruti Ghubde, Rohini Gujjanwar also were present during this visit.

When asked about this Director of the Sports Department Prof. Anita Lokhande told that the VC has appointed a five member committee to enquire the matter and further action will be taken after the report of this committee.
