Gadchiroli Sept. 7 (District Correspondent) The Gadchiroli Police have registered an offence against the two sons of the retired Police Station In charge of the same Police Station for smuggling illicit liquor.

The names of the accused have been given as Neeraj Mandalwar and Nikhil Mandalwar. Akash Bharadkar and two other unknown persons also have been made accused in the case.

The operation was conducted successfully by the Local Crime Branch of Gadchiroli Police Force in which illicit liquor worth Rs. 3,24,000 and a vehicle costing Rs. 5,00, 000 that was used in the smuggling of the liquor has been seized.

The prohibition of liquor is in force in Gadchiroli district for the last many years. However, illicit liquor is transported and sold illegally in a clandestine manner by some people giving slip to the police. Considering this, the Superintendent of Police Mr. Nilotpal has directed all the police posts, sub-police stations and police station in-charges to take strict action against those selling illegal liquor.

According to police, in the early hours of the morning on Sept. 6 last, the local crime branch team was on its patrolling mission, as they had got a confidential information that illicit liquor was being smuggled from the Raj Wine Bar on Mul Road, a wine bar belonging to Mr. Damdeo Mandalwar, (retired PSO of Gadchiroli) and his two sons Neeraj Mandalwar and Nikhil Mandalwar.

The team found that the suspected vehicle was running towards Chatgaon via Semana Road and Potegaon. The LCB men chased the vehicle upon which two persons ran away near village Bodli taking advantage of darkness after stopping their vehicle. When the vehicle was checked an illicit liquor including wine and beer worth Rs. 3,24,000 was found in it.

The LCB team included Assistant Police Inspector Rahul Awhad along with Police Amaldars  Prashat Garfade,  Shrikrishna Parchake,  Shrikant Boina and police driver Manohar Togarwar.

An offence has been registered under section 65 (A), 83, 98 (2) of Maharashtra Prohibition Act, sections 353, 332 of IPC against Neeraj Mandalwar, Nikhil Mandalwar and Akash Bharadkar in the matter. Further investigations into the crime are being conducted.

It should be mentioned here that Damdeo Mandalwar, the owner of the wine bar from whose shop the said liquor shop was being smuggled was the Incharge of the Gadchiroli Police Station before his retirement. Immediately after his retirement he joined a main stream political party and started the wine bar on the borders of the district.

With this action, quite a sensation has prevailed among those engaged in illicit liquor business and the police action is being highly appreciated.
