Gadchiroli Nov. 11 (District Correspondent) The indefinite hunger strike launched by social worker Dr. Sushil Kohad for the last 13 days was finally withdrawn after Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Deorao Holi.

Dr. Holi visited the pandal this afternoon and discussed the issue in detail with Dr. Kohad and assured him to take up the issue with the state government. Following this assurance, Dr. Kohad ended his fast. The MLA offered him a lemon juice to mark the end of the fast.

Dr. Kohad had launched his indefinite hunger strike at Indira Square of the city on Oct. 30 last to press the demand that the Zade, Zadiya community should be given the constitutional status of Scheduled Tribes and be included in the list of STs. The community members are deprived of many govt. schemes in lack of this status, he had claimed.

Many political party leaders and social organizations visited the pandal and had extended their support to the agitation. The members of the Zade community had also taken out a march in the city to attract the attention of the administration towards the demands. The government authorities also had urged Dr. Kohad to withdraw the fast but he was not ready to do so until some concrete decision is taken by the government.

The fast was however ended today in presence of the Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Holi. Gadchiroli PSO Arvindkumar Katlam was present on the occasion.
