Congress workers stage protest against elephants shifting.

Gadchiroli Sept. 8 (District Correspondent) The Congress party workers staged demonstrations in front of the Conservator of forest office here this morning to protest against the shifting of elephants in the district.

The party workers shouted slogans against the shifting of elephants and demanded early withdrawal of the govt. decision in this regard.

The central government has decided to transfer the elephants of Kamalapur elephant camp to a private zoological museum in Gujarat state. The camp is very important in terms of tourism. A big protest was held earlier by the Congress in Kamalapur upon which the Mahavikas Aghadi government stopped the migration of elephants.

However, after the change of power in the state, the new government gave the green signal to the migration of elephants and in the middle of the night, 3 elephants were taken from Patanil camp. Now the elephants from Kamalapur are being shifted to Gujrat.

When the Congress protested against the BJP government at the Centre, the BJP MPs and MLAs said that they would not allow the elephants in the district to go anywhere. Recently, the Nagpur High Court has passed strictures against the state and central government on elephant migration issue.

As the present government remained silent, the district Congress led a protest against both the state and the central governments under the leadership of district president Mahendra Bramhanwade.
