Anganwadi Workers staging dharna.

Gadchiroli Dec. 4 (District Correspondent) The Anganwadi Workers attached to CITU staged a massive dharna agitation in front of the Zilla Parishad office here today to press their various demands.

A large number of Anganwadi Workers from different parts of the district assembled in front of the Zilla Parishad office in Complex area this afternoon and shouted slogans in support of their demands. More than 1,000 workers participated in this agitation.

The main demands of the agitation were Anganwadi Workers should be given the status of government employees and until such a status is accorded monthly honorarium of Rs. 26,000 should be given to them, 50 percent of honorarium amount as pension and gratuity be given to the workers as per Supreme Court judgement etc.

The Anganwadi Kruti Samiti has launched indefinite strike in the state from today for these demands. As a part of this agitation, the Anganwadi Workers of the district staged the dharna agitation in Gadchiroli also.

Prof. Rameshchandra Dahiwade, senior leader of the Anganwadi Kruti Samiti led the agitation in which Mr. Amol Ganyarpawar, District Secretary of CPI (M), Pramod Godghate, Arun Bhelke, Rajesh Pinjarkar, Ujwala Undirwade, Bharti Ramteke, Kaushalya Gaurkar, Chhaya Kagdelwar, Sushila Kar, Sunanda Bawne, Suman Tokalwar, Sunanda Uike, Yogita Munghate and others participated.

Addressing the Anganwadi Workers Prof. Dahiwade said the state government has been ignoring the long pending demand of the Anganwadi workers who have been serving tirelessly. The demands of these workers should be fulfilled immediately, he demanded. If the elected public representatives are given pension, why can’t the anganwadi workers who work for the welfare of women and children, Dahiwade asked.
