Gadchiroli Nov. 9 (District Correspondent) A , child marriage- free India awareness rally was taken out at Gurvada village near here the other day by Sparsh Sanstha of the city, in association with Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, New Delhi.

On this occasion, Sparsh Sanstha Secretary Ms. Roza Khobragade, Gurvada Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Archana Bhopye, Dy. Sarpanch Prakash Bambole, Kundeshwari Adangewar were mainly present.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Roza Khobragade said that the practice of child marriages is still followed in our country is very unfortunate thing for the society.  The rate of child marriage has not reduced in India, which is a serious matter. Child marriage leads to mental, physical and spiritual abuse of girls. Even though they are not of legal age for marriage, marriages are arranged by looking at the son of a relative. This should be stopped immediately for the growth and development of the girls, she appealed.

She also asserted that at a young age, girls get trapped in worldly bonds and their progress is blocked. The parents should think about this seriously and ensure that no such child marriages are held, she said.

A public oath was taken by the villagers present on this occasion that child marriage will not be allowed in their village. Preeti Shende, Vaibhav Sontakke, Chandraprabha Bambole, Kalpana Ladke, Sunita Meshram, Jayashree Bambole, Varsha Gedam worked tirelessly for the success of the awareness rally that was taken out under Child Marriage Mukt Bharat Mission.
