Gadchiroli April 22 (District Correspondent) A mass marriage ceremony of the Buddhist community was organized at a remote village of Kotgul in korchi taluka the other day by Bouddha Samaj Sangathana, Korchi.

It was for the first time that such a ceremony was organized in a remotely situated place like Kotgul in which marriages of as many as 6 couples were performed. The mangal sutras and utensils were given to the newly wed couples by the organizers as a gift.

Mr. Pratapsingh Gajbhiye, social worker, presided over the programme. Mr. M. D. Walde, President of Bouddha Mahasabha, Chhattisgarh state was the chief guest. Mr. Yashwant Tembhurne, Block Education Officer, Shrawankumar Matlam, ex-chairman of Panchayat Samiti, Ms. Manjusha Kumre, Sarpanch of Kotgul, Parmeshwar Lohambare were prominently present.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Gajbhiye appreciated the initiative saying it helps the community to develop the social relationship as the members of the society come together and discuss the issues concerning each other. The programme also saves money, time and energy of them people and unwanted expenditure incurred on marriages is curtailed, he stated.

The other guests also spoke on the occasion and congratulated the new couples and the organizers. Earlier a lecture of noted speaker Prof. Jawed Pasha was organized.

Mr. Shalikram Karhade made an introductory speech, Jeevan bhaisare conducted the programme and Chandrashekhar Ambade proposed the vote of thanks.

The residents from Nangpur, Khirutola, Kotgul, Wako, Kondruj, Arajkund Dewalgaon, Bhagdena, Balod etc had participated in large numbers this mass marriage ceremony. Mr. Ramdas Ambade, Nakul Sahare, Mahesh Lade, Manik Raut, Prin. Dewrao Gajbhiye, Ms. Jyoti Bhaisare, Rahul Ambade and others took pains for the success of the programme.
