Birsa Munda’s revolutionary fight should be carried forward, Dr. Waman Shedmake.

Gadchiroli Nov. 16 (District Correspondent) Kranti veer Birsa Munda’s revolutionary fight for protecting the land and forest as well as the self-respect and dignity of the tribals is quite historic and needs to be carried forward even today, said Dr. Waman Shedmake, well known tribal thinker while speaking at the birth anniversary at Birsa Munda Square of the city on Tuesday.

The programme organized by Adiwasi Ekta Yuwa Parishad was presided over by Mr. Madhao Gawad, retired Sub Divisional Engineer. Mr. Rohidas Raut, senior journalist, Jagdish Madavi of OFROT, Dr. Prakash Shedmake from Nagpur University, Marotrao Ichodkar, former chairman of Panchayat Samiti, Gautam Meshram, Ms. Kavita Gedam of the CASTRIBE, Vilas Nimborkar of ANS, Ms. Ranjana Gedam, former councillor,  were prominently present.

Tribals have a great and glorious history. They were the ruling class and possessed many forts. Several tribal heroes including Rani durgawati, Veer Baburao Shedmake and many others have participated in the freedom movement and their real history needs to be brought forward, Dr. Shedmake further said.

In his presidential speech Mr. Gawad called upon the tribals to get united and fight for their constitutional rights. He also appealed the community members to get their children educated and achieve higher posts.

The other guests also spoke on the occasion and shed light on the life and work of Krantiveer Birsa Munda. Traditional tribal dances were presented on the occasion by the tribal youths.

Eminent personalities from the tribal community were felicitated on the occasion by presenting them shawl, bouquet and mementos at the hands of the guests for their achievements. They included Dr. Deepchand Soyam, Dr. Tarkeshwar Uike, Dr. Kirtikumar Uike, Ms. Pranjali Uike, Ritesh koram, Dr. Saurabh Kannake, Ms. Shalini Kumre.

Mr. Mukunda Meshram made an introductory speech, Mr. Sukhdeo Wethe introduced the guests, Mr. Pradeep Kulsange conducted the programme and Ms. Sarika Uike proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of community members and citizens attended the programme.
