Gadchiroli Feb. 12 (District Correspondent) Member of Parliament from Gadchiroli Chimur Lok Sabha Ashok Nete has demanded relaxation in the criterion in the rules of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the grant of this scheme should be increased to 2.5 lakhs in rural areas as well on the lines of urban areas.
Mr. Nete raised a question on this issue in the budget session of the Lok Sabha on Friday. Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his resolve to ensure that every family in the country gets a house of their right, he presented the difficulties in the implementation of this plan in the House. Those who have TV, mobile, fridge, two-wheeler, and those who have 5 acres of agricultural land do not get the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. As lakhs of families in the country are deprived of housing due to these conditions, this rule should be relaxed, Mr. Nete requested.
In the second supplementary question asked on the same topic, he raised the issue of Gharkul subsidy also. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana provides a subsidy of Rs. 2.50 lakhs for urban areas and Rs. 1.50 lakhs for rural areas. Actually, the citizens of rural areas have to bring the materials required for construction from the urban areas. For this, the transportation cost increases, so this subsidy should be raised to Rs 2.50 lakh in the rural areas as well as is given in the urban areas, Nete demanded. He also demanded that the benefits of this scheme should be given on priority to the backward and tribal areas of the country.
