Mr. Uday Dhakate

Gadchiroli, May 31 (District Correspondent) Mr. Uday Dhakate, President of the Rashtriya Halba Jamat Mahamandal, has raised serious objection over the circular issued by the Tribal Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra on May 26, 2026, regarding caste validity cases involving Scheduled Tribes. A specific time limit has now been given for filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) or a Review Petition in the Supreme Court in cases where the High Court rules against the Caste Verification Committee, which is harmful to the youths who have already got relief from the high courts, Dhakate has pointed out.

He has stated in a press release that the circular is a matter of grave concern for the tribal community. If the government persists in its rigid stance of approaching the Supreme Court even after justice has been delivered by the High Court, the education, employment, and future prospects of poor tribal youth will be jeopardized, he added.

According to this circular, Caste Verification Committees have been directed to take swift legal action against judicial verdicts. Consequently, the likelihood of numerous cases reaching the Supreme Court is expected to rise, potentially imposing an additional financial and mental burden on economically vulnerable tribal families.

Mr. Dhakate has raised apprehension that the education, employment, and reservation benefits of students hailing from tribal-dominated districts—such as Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Gondia, Bhandara, Nagpur, Nandurbar, and Nashik—could become entangled in prolonged judicial processes.

While the government should indeed take action against holders of fraudulent caste certificates, but adopting a stance that initiates fresh legal battles against genuine tribal members who have already secured relief from the courts constitutes an unjust approach, Dhakate has further said.

This move is an attempt to create obstacles in the judicial process. The government must reconsider this circular, keeping the best interests of genuine tribal members in mind, he has demanded.
