Gadchiroli May 25 (District Correspondent) Solid waste management in Aheri town has come to a complete standstill over the past eight days due to the expiration of the previous contractor’s tenure on April 30 last. coupled with the ruling party’s irresponsible and obstinate stance and their failure to undertake proper planning for the future has added to the problems further. Consequently, heaps of garbage have accumulated throughout the town.
With the monsoon season fast approaching, the suspension of drain cleaning operations has sparked intense resentment among the residents of Aheri. As many sanitation workers have been left without work and are sitting idle at home, they are now facing the threat of starvation.
BJP councillor Amol Gudelliwar met the Chief Officer of the Aheri Nagar Panchayat Abhijit Sonawane and submitted a memorandum and held a detailed discussion regarding the issue. He issued a stern warning that waste collection services in Aheri city must be restored to normal state within the next four days; failing which, he threatened to mobilize the sanitation workers and stage a massive protest by dumping the city’s garbage right inside the Nagar Panchayat office.
The CO has assured Mr. Gudelliwar to look into the matter and take the necessary action.
