
Gadchiroli Oct. 6 (District Correspondent) Identify the talent among the students and develop them. Besides knowledge, this university should work for the overall development of the students and it should be known as a world class model of the universities, said Padma shri Dr. Chandrashekhar Meshram, well known neurologist while speaking at the 14 th anniversary of the university that was celebrated at auditorium of the university here this afternoon.
Veteran leader and educationist Marotrao Kamble was posthumously presented Jeevan Sadhna Gaurav award in this programme for his commendable contribution in the field of education and social service. Dr. Dewesh Kamble, the son of late Mr. Kamble accepted the award. Dr. Nandkishor Khatri from Chandrapur was also presented the Jeevan Sadhna award of the university.
Dr. Dewesh Kamble donated the award money to the university to carry forward Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade Study Centre of the university while Dr. Khatri donated his prize money for the purpose of carrying innovative activities for the students studying agriculture.
Dr. Prashant Bokare, Vice Chancellor of the university presided over the programme while Dr. Milind Narote, MLA, Dr. Shriram Kawle, Pro VC, Dr. Prashant Mohite, former head of the university sub centre, Dr. Anil Hirekhan, Registrar of the university were prominently present. All the members of the management council of the university were also seated on the dais as the guests of honour.
Speaking further Dr. Meshram termed the district of Gadchiroli as a region of good people and rich natural resources. The opening of Gondwana University has opened the avenues of higher education to the local students, he stated saying this university will help in creating the genius students. He appreciated the university for opening study centres in the names of various social reformers and hoped the students will be given the message of these reformers through these centres.
Besides the local languages, the national and international languages are also very important in shaping the personality of the students, Dr. Meshram pointed out and urged the university to focus on sports so that the students here present their skill on international forums. The students from this university should be prepared to go to the reputed universities, he suggested.
In his presidential speech, Dr. Bokare said the Gondwana University has been doing its best to develop the institute and the students. The university should achieve greater success when it enters the silver jubilee year, he remarked. The education of life values is very important and the university has been stressing on it, he pointed out. Many of the students having got such an education have got the placements in different institutes, he mentioned.
The various other awards of the university were also distributed on the occasion at the hands of the dignitaries.
Dr. Shriram Kawle made an introductory speech and gave the details of the various activities taken up by the university, Dr. Shilpa Athawale conducted the programme and Dr. Anil Hirekhan proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of students, teachers, heads of the institutions, eminent citizens attended the programme.
UNIVERSITY FORGETS GANDHIJI, SHASTRI—Though the university was founded on Oct. 2, way back in 2011 on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, it forgot to keep the portraits of these two great leaders on the dais. Even though the moderator of the programme announced that the portraits will be garlanded, there were no any portrait kept on the dais upon which all those present were surprised.
