
Gadchiroli Aug. 30 (District Correspondent) The festival of Ganesha has started in the city on a grand scale with the installation of several individual and public Ganesh idols and this year the people of Gadchiroli have preferred clay Ganesh idols. The citizens have installed homemade Ganeshas within the limits of the Municipal Council, and have given priority to instal the eco-friendly idols.
The Municipal Council has set up artificial immersion tanks at various places in the city, such as Gokul Nagar Lake and Reddy Godown. The Municipal Council has appealed to citizens to immerse their homemade Ganeshas in these tanks only, and to collect the Nirmalya (puja material) created during immersion in the Nirmala Kalash established by the Municipal Council instead of throwing it directly into the river or lake. The collected Nirmalya will be sent to the solid waste management project and organic fertilizer will be prepared from it.
Public Ganeshotsav Mandals have been appealed to participate in the Ganesha Competition organized by the state government. The Municipal Council has expressed confidence that the Mandals of Gadchiroli city will win prizes at the state level due to eco-friendly decorations and planned organization of the festival.
During the ten-day festival of Ganesha, public awareness is being created in the city through AV vans in collaboration with the Environment and Climate Change Department, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan Directorate about organizing eco-friendly festivals. Documentaries, awareness videos and banners explaining the importance of eco-friendly Ganeshotsava are being shown in this.
Although Ganeshotsava is a festival of faith and tradition, it is our responsibility to ensure that it does not harm the environment. Mr. Suryakant Pidurkar, Chief Officer of the Municipal Council, has appealed to everyone to follow the various guidelines of the government while celebrating Ganeshotsava, take a pledge to conserve the environment and contribute to making Gadchiroli clean and green.
