Gadchiroli Aug. 27 (District Correspondent) As many as 4 naxalites including 3 women were killed in a fierce encounter that took place between the security forces and the Maoists this morning.

A credible information was received on Aug. 25 that Gatta Dalam, Company No. 10 and other Maoist formations of Gadchiroli Division were present in the Koparshi forest area on the Gadchiroli-Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh) border. Based on this, 19 C-60 commando force units and 2 units of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Quick Action Team (QAT) were dispatched to the said forest area under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops) Mr. M. Ramesh.

Braving torrential rains in the district and Bhamragad area over the last two days, the security forces teams reached the forest area this morning and when they were conducting a search operation, Maoists opened indiscriminate firing on the them leading to effective retaliation by the security forces. The firing continued for about 8 hours.

When the area was searched after the firing,  a total of 4 Maoists bodies (1 male and 03 female) were recovered along with 4 weapons including 1 SLR rifle, 2 INSAS rifles and one 303 rifle.

Gadchiroli district completed 43 years on August 26. There is a possibility that the Maoists were planning a sabotage operation on the day of the district anniversary. However, this plot was foiled by the jawans.

This is the second such encounter in Koparshi forest area in the span of ten months. Earlier, an encounter took place between Maoists and police in Koparshi forest on October 21, 2024. In that encounter, two male and three female Maoists were killed. In the same forest, for the second time in ten months, the jawans killed four Maoists.

Further search operation is continuing in the area for the remaining Maoists.
