A view of Congress Party's Mashal Morcha.

Gadchiroli Aug. 17 (District Correspondent) To protest against the alleged manipulations in voters list and to create awareness among the public about the issue, a grand torch march was taken out by the District Congress Committee here the other day.

The march started from the Congress office on Chamorshi road and proceeded to Indira Gandhi Chowk. The workers shouted slogans against the Election Commission and the central government and expressed their protest about the ‘vote theft’.

The march then culminated into a meeting in which District Congress president Mahendra Bramhanwade and other leaders spoke and came down heavily on the election commission of India for the bogus voters list demanding transparency in the list.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has put tremendous pressure on the Election Commission, misused the Commission’s machinery and manipulated the voter list on a large scale, and has come to power through voter fraud. This is not just a political fraud but a direct attack on democracy, he alleged.

The manipulation of the voter list, inclusion of fake names, irregular incidents at polling stations – all of these have directly insulted the sacred right of voters to vote, said the speakers.

The citizens participating in the march raised slogans like “Gali Gali Mai Shor Hai, Modi Sarkar Chor Hai, Vot Chor Gaddi Chod”. The blazing flames of torches and the bright light of candles made the message of protecting democracy stand out on the streets of Gadchiroli.

Former ZP Vice President Manohar  Poretti, National Secretary of Indian Youth Congress Vishwajit Kovase, District President Mahila Congress Adv. Kavita Moharkar,  Taluka Presidents Milind Khobragade, Pramod Bhagat, Vasant Raut, Youth Congress  President Nitesh Rathod, Kisan Cell’s Wamanrao Savsakade, Teachers Cell’s Dattatreya Kharwade, Abdulbhai Panjwani, SC Cell President Rajnikant Motghare, Transport Cell’s Rupesh Tikle, former councillor Ramesh Chaudhari, Devaji Sontakke, Prabhakar Vasekar, Dilip Ghodam, Rajesh Thakur, Shankarrao Salotkar, Anil Kothare, Kashinath Bhadke and hundreds of other congress workers participated in the march.
