4 die of dengue in Mulchera taluka, 3 health officials suspended.

Gadchiroli Aug. 16 (District Correspondent) Taking serious cognizance of the spread of dengue and deaths having occurred due to this deadly disease, the Zilla Parishad administration has finally taken strict action against the concerned health officials of the Primary Health Centres of Lagam and Murumgaon.

Lingaji Naitam, Health Assistant of the Primary Health Centre Lagam and Ashok Dongarwar, Health Assistant of the Primary Health Centre Murumgaon have been suspended due to delay in the control of the disease, informed Dr. Pratap shinde, district health officer of Zilla Parishad.

Dr. Onkar Kolhe, a Contract Medical Officer of the Primary Health Centre Lagam has been relieved from service, holding him responsible for the dengue spread in the village and the area.

It should be mentioned here that as many as 4 persons namely Sudhakar kokirwar (40), Kishta Tekulwar (40), bothe residents of village Yella in Mulchera taluka, Naintara Kharati (45) and Nandkishor Polshettiwar (57), both the residents of village Lagam had died due to dengue between Aug. 6 and 13 last and several other villagers have been suffering from the disease. One more patient died yesterday but he was not suffering from dengue, claimed the health office.

The disease of dengue started in Yella and Lagam villages of Mulchera taluka in the first week of August and gradually spread in the area. The two patients died due to this disease on Aug. 6 and 7 while the two others died on Aug. 11 and 13 last. An atmosphere of fear and terror spread in the area because of these deaths. So far as many as 118 patients have been diagnosed with dengue positive in the villages.

On getting the news, the health department swung into action and started necessary measures to bring the spread of dengue under control. Temas of doctors and health officials were despatched to the villages in the area-Kakargatta, Geetali, Shantigram, Tikepalli, Kolpalli, Lagam Chak etc besides Yella and Lagam. District Health Officer Dr. Shinde personally visited the villages and gave necessary instructions to the officials. Presently 29 health teams have been camping in the area. They have been asked to visit every house in the village, find out the sources of mosquito production and conduct the spraying.

The anti-mosquito spraying has been done in 13 villages and fogging was done in 5 villages. As many as 690 patients were examined for dengue and 118 of them were found to be dengue positive. Some 28 patients have been admitted to the hospitals, according to the health department.
